Safety tips
Most people here are genuine. These habits protect you from the few who are not.
Before the visit
- Keep the conversation in chat. It is recorded and we can act on reports.
- Never pay a token, advance or "booking amount" before seeing the house.
- Check the Verified badge and how long the poster has been a member.
At the visit
- Go in daylight and take someone with you.
- Meet the owner or a family member at the house, not at a tea shop.
- Check water pressure, the sump, the EB meter and the monsoon water line on the compound wall.
Paying
- Pay the deposit only against a signed rental agreement on stamp paper.
- Pay by bank transfer to the owner’s own account, and keep the receipt.
- For a purchase, have a lawyer check the title before any advance.
Short stays
- Carry a photo ID. The host has to record guests’ IDs as the law requires.
- See the room, or a live video call of it, before you pay for the first night.
- Pay per night or per stay against a receipt, never a large advance for "blocking" dates.
